English language proficiency is an essential global competence; however, children often face challenges in vocabulary acquisition due to the use of learning methods that are less engaging and not developmentally appropriate. This community service program aims to introduce and strengthen basic English vocabulary mastery among foster students at the Al-Kahfi Foundation, Madiun Branch. The implementation was carried out through interactive learning activities incorporating flashcards as visual learning media. Flashcards were selected for their effectiveness in illustrating word meanings, supporting memory retention, and increasing students’ interest and participation in learning.
The activity consisted of several stages, including introductory sessions, interactive question-and-answer discussions, and educational games designed to reinforce the vocabulary introduced. The results demonstrated a notable increase in students’ enthusiasm for learning English and an improvement in their retention of newly learned vocabulary covering themes such as everyday objects, animals, and daily activities. The sustainability of this program is expected to be supported by mentors at the foundation, who can continue applying the flashcard-based approach to maintain student learning motivation and enhance vocabulary mastery.
