The Study of Research Management Standards At Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta And University Utara Malaysia

Abstract

This study aims to examine: (1) the research management standards implemented at Yogyakarta State University and Universiti Utara Malaysia; (2) the extent to which these standards are realized in practice; and (3) the obstacles encountered in their implementation. The research employed a mixed-method approach using both quantitative and qualitative data within a comparative study design. Data were collected through document analysis, interviews, and institutional reports related to research management systems at both universities. The findings indicate that the research management standards at Yogyakarta State University and Universiti Utara Malaysia share similar frameworks, encompassing planning, organizing, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. In both institutions, research management is coordinated by university research institutes operating under the direct supervision of the Rector or Vice-Chancellor. The head of the research institution is responsible for overseeing research planning, execution, and evaluation processes. Despite structural similarities, differences were identified in resource allocation, administrative systems, and policy integration. Overall, effective research management requires strong institutional commitment, structured governance, and continuous evaluation to ensure research quality and productivity.
