Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) for children with special needs (Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus/ABK) often encounters accessibility challenges, particularly in online learning environments. This community service program was conducted in Magetan Regency with the objective of reducing communication barriers between teachers, students, and parents through the integration of instructional technology and creative learning media utilizing patchwork waste. The program employed a participatory approach involving digital literacy training for teachers and hands-on workshops for parents from diverse occupational backgrounds to produce tactile and adaptive learning media. The main focus of the activity was to internalize Islamic values in the daily lives of inclusive students in an engaging and meaningful manner, while simultaneously empowering local potential through collaboration with garment industry partners.
The results demonstrated a significant increase in teachers’ confidence in implementing technology-based religious instruction, as well as strengthened emotional connections within families through simple, efficient, and inclusive Islamic learning practices. The use of patchwork-based learning media not only provided affordable and accessible instructional resources for families from both agricultural and professional sectors, but also generated innovative educational products with economic value for local industry stakeholders. This program concludes that synergy between digital technology and local material creativity can effectively support inclusive Islamic education and contribute to the development of a more religious, inclusive, and socially empowered community in Magetan. Furthermore, the initiative proves that religious education can adapt to contemporary advancements without marginalizing ABK, while supporting the achievement of minimum educational service standards at the regional level.
