Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) technique in improving the reading comprehension skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Maospati in the 2016/2017 academic year, as well as to identify the extent of its contribution to students’ learning outcomes. The subjects of this research were students of class VIII G, and the design employed was classroom action research. The data were obtained through lesson plans, pre-tests, and post-tests.

The findings show that the implementation of the TGT technique effectively enhances students’ understanding of narrative texts. After the intervention, students’ reading comprehension achievement reached a good category with an average score of 85.55, reflecting an improvement of 8.5 points from the first post-test. These results confirm that TGT provides a positive and significant contribution to improving students’ reading comprehension performance.
