Keywords:
mind mapping, reading skill, reading comprehensionAbstract
This study aimed to improve students’ reading skills by implementing the mind mapping technique during the teaching and learning process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive design. The subjects were 26 eleventh-grade students of SMK Maospati. Data were collected through tests, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative methods.
The results of the two research cycles showed that the use of the mind mapping technique successfully improved students’ reading skills. Students demonstrated better abilities in paraphrasing sentences, identifying topic sentences, and mastering vocabulary. Additionally, the mind mapping technique motivated students to become more active during classroom activities. As a result, students gained more meaningful learning experiences and improved their overall achievement.
