PAPAN AKAR PANGKAT DUA (PAPAD) SEBAGAI UPAYA PEMAHAMAN PESERTA DIDIK DI SDN NGUJUNG 01

Mathematical literacy in understanding square roots is a fundamental competency in elementary education; however, conventional instruction often emphasizes rote memorization, resulting in cognitive fatigue and limited conceptual comprehension. At SDN Ngujung 01, Maospati, students experienced difficulties in visualizing abstract mathematical operations, creating a gap between procedural formulas and practical understanding. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ calculation accuracy and logical reasoning through the implementation of the “Papan Akar Pangkat Dua” (PAPAD) learning media. The program applied the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) learning framework combined with a fun-learning approach through structured classroom mentoring and manipulative media workshops. The PAPAD module was designed progressively, guiding students from number recognition to more complex square root extraction through hands-on simulations, logic-board activities, and collaborative peer challenges. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ mathematical self-efficacy and conceptual fluency in solving square root problems. Additionally, PAPAD was institutionalized as a permanent instructional aid in the school’s mathematics laboratory, and a “Math-Creative Corner” was established to sustain interactive learning practices. This initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of manipulative-based media in fostering deeper mathematical understanding and supporting sustainable innovation in elementary mathematics education.
