Abstract
This study aims to improve the skills of self-building dress using media models for grade III mentally retarded children at SLB Dharma Wanita Jiwan.
The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with the type of classroom action research, the research design of Kemmis and McTaggart. This research consists of two cycles, the first and second cycles each of three meetings, the subjects in this study were two mild mental retardation students , the data collection technique is done by observation and documentation for data analysis using narrative techniques to tell the data extracted from the subject in accordance with the actual conditions.
The results of the study show that the improvement of learning self-building skills through the classmate model, namely children have concrete examples, children are more active because classmates are used as models, the model used as an example is classmates who are the smartest in dressing independently, this encourages other students to imitate and follow what the model does. This increase in the skills of self-formation in clothing can be seen after the action is given using classmates as a model. The description of the improvement of self-development skills in clothing is that students have been able to wear clothes, put sleeves in, tidy up clothes, wear and button a skirt. The improvement of dress self-development skills runs in two cycles with the addition of several such as reward and individual guidance so as to achieve predetermined completeness criteria.
