This study investigates the effect of project-based learning (PBL) on the critical thinking abilities of elementary school students at SDN Keraton 1 Magetan. The research employed an experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups, involving two groups: an experimental group receiving PBL and a control group undergoing conventional learning. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the critical thinking skills of the experimental group, with the average posttest score increasing from 55.2 to 78.6. Meanwhile, the control group showed a smaller increase. The t-test results (p < 0.05) and Cohen’s d analysis (d = 1.58 for the experimental group) confirm the positive and significant impact of PBL. Thus, project-based learning is highly recommended to foster critical thinking in elementary education.
