Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of audio-visual media on students’ listening achievement among seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Maospati in the 2021/2022 academic year. The research employed a quantitative approach using an intact-group comparison design. The population consisted of seventh-grade students, with two classes selected as samples: Class VII A (15 students) as the experimental group, which was taught using audio-visual media, and Class VII C (15 students) as the control group, which received conventional instruction without audio-visual media. Data were collected through listening achievement tests. The data analysis included normality and homogeneity tests as prerequisite analyses, followed by an independent samples t-test to examine the research hypothesis. The results of the normality and homogeneity tests indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The hypothesis testing showed that t_obtained (11.108) was greater than t_table (1.701), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. These findings demonstrate that the use of audio-visual media has a positive and significant effect on students’ listening achievement.
