As Magetan continues to develop as a tourist destination in East Java, the increasing number of foreign visitors requires improved communication capacity among local residents. However, limited foreign language proficiency often constrains effective service delivery and intercultural interaction. This study aims to identify the training needs of local residents in communicating with foreign tourists and to develop an effective training module in translation and interpretation. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing interviews and surveys involving local residents and tourism stakeholders in Magetan. The training program focuses on basic translation techniques, cultural awareness, and practical interpretation skills to enhance communicative competence in tourism contexts. The findings indicate that translation and interpretation training significantly contribute to improving service quality, reducing communication barriers, and increasing foreign tourist satisfaction. Furthermore, such capacity-building initiatives support the development of inclusive and sustainable tourism practices at the local level. This study recommends the integration of community-based language training into regional tourism development strategies to strengthen Magetan’s competitiveness as an international tourist destination.
