Understanding concepts in Social Studies (IPS) learning is often challenging for elementary students due to the abstract and narrative nature of the material. Therefore, effective instructional media are needed to facilitate a more visual and meaningful learning process. This study aims to identify and analyze the influence of visual media (pictures) on students’ conceptual understanding and learning outcomes in Social Studies, specifically among fourth-grade students at SDN Mranggen. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of visual media compared to conventional teaching methods and identifies challenges faced by teachers in its implementation. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving 40 students as the sample. Data collection techniques included tests (pre-test and post-test) and observation. The results of the t-test analysis showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between the experimental and control groups, with the experimental group—using visual media—achieving higher learning outcomes. In conclusion, visual media is effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding and learning performance in Social Studies. This research contributes to the development of visual-based learning strategies in elementary schools and suggests further exploration of interactive digital media in future studies.
