Mathematics subjects have an important role in human life. Mathematics arises because
human thoughts are related to ideas, processes and ranging from counting to reasoning that require
facts, sometimes at rest humans can not be separated from Mathematics. Basically, the discussion of
mathematics is only about problems of calculation and formulas. With the realization of active student
learning conditions is the hope of all components of education including the community and education
practitioners. Therefore, in learning activities required a learning strategy planned by the teacher by
prioritizing student activity in teaching and learning activities. Teachers must be creative in choosing the
right learning method and stimulate students to be more active in learning, especially learning
mathematics. Therefore, the author wants to use the Talking Stick learning method.
Based on the background of the problem above, the formulation of the problem in this classroom
action research is "How to Improve Mathematics Learning Achievement in Grade Two Materials and
Grade Two Roots Through the Talking Stick Method in Grade V Students of SD Negeri 1 Wonokromo
Semester I 2019/2020? " Based on the formulation of the problem, this Classroom Action Research aims
to determine the improvement of Mathematics Learning Achievement in Grade Two Materials and Grade
Two Roots through the Talking Stick Method in Class V Students of SD Negeri 1 Wonokromo Semester I
2019/2020. In this classroom action research, the instrument used is a test instrument. Scores of student
test results in working on questions that include tests at the end of each cycle (cycle I and cycle II). The
results of these tests will be used to see the increase in understanding and achievement of student
learning outcomes.
Based on the results of classroom action research that has been carried out on fifth grade students of
SD Negeri 1 Wonokromo, Gondang District, Tulungagung Regency in 2019/2020 Semester I, it can be
concluded that the application of the Talking Stick Method can improve student achievement in
Mathematics subjects, the subject matter of Numbers Rank Two and Square root. This can be seen from
the percentage of student learning completeness which has increased in each cycle. With the percentage
of student learning completeness that increases in each cycle, from 65.22% with an average learning
outcome of 75.65, it increases to 73.91% with an average learning outcome of 79.13 in the first cycle.
Improved student achievement This is more optimal in the second cycle with an average learning outcome
of 85.65 with 100% completeness.
