Abstract
Role play is a planned learning activity designed to achieve specific educational
goals. Role play is based on three main aspects of role experience in everyday life 1)
role taking, namely the pressure of social expectations on role holders, 2) role making,
namely the ability of role holders to change dramatically from one role to another and
create and modify roles whenever necessary, 3) Role negotiation, namely the degree to
which roles are negotiated with other role holders in the parameters and barriers of
social interaction (Hisyam Zaini, 2002: 92).
The approach used in this research is a quantitative approach, with the type of
action research. In this study the researchers collaborated with other teachers as well
as with the principal. Researchers are directly involved in the research from the
beginning to the end of the research. Researchers try to see, observe, feel, appreciate,
reflect and evaluate the ongoing learning activities. The stages of implementing action
research consist of planning (planning), implementation (acting), observation
(observing), and reflection (relecting). To get accurate research results, the data that
has been collected.
The results of the study concluded that there was an increase in the ability to
understand the concept of territory and zoning in national, provincial, and district/city
spatial planning through optimizing the role play learning method for students in class
XII.IPS.3 SMA Negeri 3 Ponorogo in the academic year 2021/ 2022.
